Something BIG is happening in Danville on June 28th. Ginormous, some may say.
The second annual Game On event is happening on Washington Street in downtown Danville. Game On, sponsored by the Danville Downtown Partnership, brings everyone’s favorite games, and it brings them in giant versions to historic courthouse square. Build Jenja as tall as your five year old, play tic-tac-toe with hula hoops and pool noodles, and play Scrabble with tiles the size of pizza boxes.
Our family attended last year, and everyone had a lot of fun. There are games for older children and adults, as well as simple ones for younger kids. Kids LOVED seeing the giant dominoes (spray painted boxes) and playing the giant Connect Four board with frisbees. It’s very informal, and players just lined up to take turns playing various games. Last year there was a DJ providing background music, and there were picnic tables set up for snacking and observing.
Game On is an entirely free event. You may want to bring a cooler with snacks, or you could always pop in to one of the cafes near the Danville town square. You could even shop for snacks and other items at the Danville Farmer’s Market, which happens right on the courthouse square every Saturday morning from 8am until noon. While you’re there, take a walk by the Mayberry Cafe, which is dedicated to everything about the Andy Griffith Show. Parking is easy (and free) a block or two away from courthouse square.
Games will be ready to play from noon until 4pm. Bring your family, your friends and your camera for a game time you won’t soon forget!
