Danville Attractions: History, Charm, and Golf

Danville, Indiana is a small town to the west of Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana. Danville attractions may not have the flash and variety of Indianapolis attractions, but they have a small town charm of their own. If you love nature, history, and peaceful reverie, then Danville is the place to go. Danville parks, Danville restaurants, and Danville events are all geared toward those who like a little peace and quiet in their lives.

One of the most popular Danville attractions is the Hendricks County Museum. Founded in 1975 by the Hendricks County Historical Society, this former county jail is dedicated to preserving the rich history of this central Indiana county. With something from all aspects of life in Hendricks County, including agricultural devices, Danville education history, domestic heritage, and military tradition, the Hendricks County Museum is a site on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s an enriching experience for Danville children and adults alike and one of the most well developed historic sites in Danville.

For Danville sports enthusiasts, Twin Bridges Golf Club is a popular place to practice your swing. This 18 hole professional golf course is a scenic Danville attraction that has players testing their mettle from all over Indiana. The course also hosts special Danville events and even has golf clinics for every skill level, from the youngest choppers to grizzled green veterans. Twin Bridges has such a luxurious facility, in fact, that it’s an idea place for Danville business meetings, weddings, and other high profile events.
Another big historic Danville attraction is the Royal Theater, the first building in Danville constructed expressly for movies. The theater first opened its doors in 1914 and is an shining beacon of luxury and class. Its architecture is sophisticated, its history is rich, and it has come to be something of a symbol for Danville. Undergoing several renovations and expansions over its 95 year history, the Royal Theater is currently a 600 seat compliment to Danville arts. It stands in a radiant halo of light; the chandeliers, the marquee lights, the lobby fixtures all speak to the symbolic presence the Royal Theater is to Danville. The site of live Danville music, movies, and other Danville attractions, the Royal Theater has lost none of its luster in 95 years.

In 1913, a year prior to the opening of the Royal Theater, Danville set aside its first public park to protect the town’s water supply. Now known as Ellis Park, this space features baseball diamonds, a state of the art playground called The Playscape, and several shelters for overnight camping. It’s also the site of the Gill Family Aquatic Center, a Danville attraction to help cool residents and visitors down during the dog days of summer. The Aquatic Center features a lazy river, exciting whirlpools, and two massive water slides for a maximum adrenaline rush, making it a fun thing to do in Danville.

With its small town charm, wealth of historic landmarks, and fun family attractions, the quaint town of Danville is a stunning and complimentary contrast to the varied mosaic that is Indianapolis. Danville attractions were made for those with families, those with an interest in history, and those who like the finer points of nature.
