Danville Nightlife: Spend a Quiet Night on the Town

by Bryan Johnson on August 11, 2009

Carriage ride through downtown Danville, Indiana during the Winterland Light ShowDanville, Indiana is not a town known for its intense nightlife scene. The sleepy Indianapolis satellite is like many other small communities throughout Indiana; shops close early, loud music is frowned upon, and most folks are early to bed and early to rise, as per Benjamin Franklin’s recommendation. There’s no Indiana colleges to draw in youth oriented Danville businesses, and the town doesn’t even have a traditional Danville hotel. Danville children, hard work, and history are the important things in Danville, so it makes sense that there aren’t dozens of bars, clubs, and Danville nightlife venues dotting every corner.

Visitors from Danville to the Circle City can roam around one of several Indianapolis cultural districts and find something new at every Indianapolis bar they stop at. Drink specials, live Indianapolis music, stage shows at Indianapolis performing arts venues like the American Cabaret Theatre’s Connoisseur Room and the Phoenix Theatre, and even Indianapolis sports games at Lucas Oil Stadium and Conseco Fieldhouse are all huge draws for visitors to come all the way from Danville. For a party, Indianapolis is the place to go.

This historic venue shows popular movies, like Couples Retreat, Hotel for Dogs, and Kung Fu Panda, and classics of the silver screen. The Royal Theater isn’t all about movies, however; oftentimes, Danville music groups take the large stage to get crowds moving. Jennie DeVoe, Tad Robinson, and Vagabond Opera have all graced the stage at the Royal Theater, as have many other famous Indianapolis bands and artists.

Though Danville nightlife isn’t the most important thing in the town, area residents are anything but bored. There may not be too many venues for techno, black lights, ear splitting rock music, or dancing in this town, but Danville does have a beautiful countryside, hard working, honest people, and a charming downtown area rife with history. And hey, if you want a party, just drive twenty miles east to Indy; that’s one town that’s never at a loss for a good time.
