Crawfordsville, Indiana: One of the nicest cities in the United States is less than an hour’s drive to the northwest of Danville. Crawfordsville itself is fun to knock around in, with its pleasant, historic architecture and college campuses. Take in the town’s friendly atmosphere and charm, and be sure to visit the fascinating Montgomery County Rotary Jail Museum while you’re there, one of the first of its type in the nation.

Culbertson Mansion: A fun day trip from Danville to plan for the entire family is a visit to the haunted Culbertson Manion. This enormous and spooky mansion is built in authentic Victorian style. Listed on the Register of Historic Places, the Culbertson house is considered an official historic site for the state of Indiana. From April through September, they offer tours, and during Halloween, many special events are scheduled at this famous haunted house in Indiana. In New Albany, Indiana, a nice 2-1/2 hour drive southeast on the I-65.

Kokomo, Indiana: Love cars? Kokomo, Indiana boasts not one, but two museums that present collections of historic automobiles. The Automotive Heritage Museum concentrates on classic and antique cars, with some 100 different vehicles on view, dating from the present all the way back to 1894. At the Elwood Haynes Museum, you will see the home of the one of the original inventors of the horseless carriage, and many beautifully restored examples of the vehicles his work spawned. Kokomo is just about 100 miles northeast of Danville, as the crow flies.

Lebanon, Indiana: Less than forty-five minutes due north of Danville is the charming Midwest town of Lebanon. This community, small but mighty, has plenty to offer for a nice day trip from Danville, and is relatively close to home. You could take in the interesting Lebanon courthouse and the local Lebanon attractions, including a tour and luncheon at the Flower Barn and a trip to the historic Cragun home. Just outside of town are two golf courses and in the evening you could have a memorable dinner at the Bijou French Restaurant.
